WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME A NURSE?

I knew I wanted to be a nurse after I traveled to Southern Africa and Southeast Asia when I was 18. I came home knowing I wanted to help others and make a difference in their lives. When I finished nursing school, I went to Uganda to volunteer at a pediatric clinic and an orphanage. It was a life-changing experience and I knew I was in the right profession. We were able to build a home for the children and get them set up with basic healthcare needs.
Upon returning, I have worked for over 10 years, in the Emergency Department and Recovery Room. I am so excited to be working in the school now and I am so excited for this new adventure!

Being with my husband and 2 sons. We love to travel and go on adventures, try new things, see new places, and taste new food. We love to be in great outdoors: biking, hiking, running… whatever/wherever it may be.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MOMENTS WITH A STUDENT OR AT THE SCHOOL?

What are some of your interests, hobbies, or passions?

I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 4 daughters, esp as our time together is so precious now that they are getting older and aren’t around as much as they used to be. I enjoy running for fitness and participating in half-marathons. I work part-time as a physical therapist in an inpatient rehab hospital and enjoy helping the patients there.

If you were stranded on a deserted island with just one thing, what would it be?

I would want my Magnificat subscription.

What experiences or people had the most influence on you?

Priests and parishioners at the different Catholic churches I’ve belonged to over the years are very dear to my heart, esp. St. Thomas Aquinas here in Charlottesville. My husband and our children have also had an enormous impact on my life.

What motivated you to become a teacher?

I have always had a passion for working with children and helping them grow up to be valuable members of society. The first time I worked with a child teaching photography and I saw the excitement on their face I was on board.

What do you want your students to gain from having known you?

I am a pretty calm and patient person for the most part. I would like students to learn that they can take their time. There’s no need to rush. Take these moments with their peers, teachers, and families and enjoy them.

If you were stranded on a deserted island with just one thing, what would it be?

A large warm blanket!

What experiences or people had the most influence on you?

My parents have always supported and helped me in all my pursuits. They made sure I had the appropriate help with learning disabilities as a young child and always offered a listening ear and advice as an adult.
